Longtime friend and supporter of McTell Fest, Alex Murawski, has completed this year’s image for the 23rd Annual Blind Willie McTell Festival. The festival date is Saturday May 7, 2016, in Thomson GA.
Alex is an Athens, Ga resident and professor at UGA in Graphic Design. No stranger to our event, he has done several poster images for us, and after several years “off”, we coaxed him back, literally, to the drawing board. The image is Alex’s take on McTell, suited up and giving his Stella 12 string guitar a go.
His work has been recognized by the Society of Illustrators in NY and LA, NY and LA Art Director’s Clubs, Communication Arts, Print, Graphis, AIGA, Society of Typographic Arts, Society of Publication Designers, The One Show, Clio Awards and European Illustration.
A great sampling of his art can be seen at http://illoz.com/murawski/. His prior work for us includes 8 images used for posters and marketing, scattered across the 23 year history of the festival.
Working with Murawski’s illustration of McTell for our final poster design is another UGA faculty member, Julie Spivey. She is the Associate Professor of Graphic Design, Area Chair of Graphic Design, at the Lamar Dodd School of Art at UGA. Spivey’s design work has been published in various monographs and recognized by AIGA (the professional organization for design), UCDA (University & College Designers Association), Print magazine, Communication Arts and Creative Quarterly, among others.
McTell Fest is very lucky … all artists, including Alex (a wicked harp player in his own right) and Julie, have freely contributed examples of their talent and imagination each year for the annual images, and they do so out of their goodness and love for the music and the fest. We love them for that.
